our house coffee - full city roast

"ah! how sweet coffee tastes! lovelier than a thousand kisses, sweeter than muscatel wine! I must have my coffee..." - johann sebastian bach, an aria from his 'kaffee-kantate' 1732

For over 14 years City Coffeehouse has used local roaster, Coffee Express Company of Plymouth, Michigan. Roasting coffee is an art and a science at Coffee Express, they provide an extensive selection of distinctive Arabica coffees from around the world, including organic and fair trade.

"The process of roasting coffee beans is one of the most important factors influencing brewed coffee taste in the cup. The longer the roasting time, the darker the bean in both appearance and taste; the darker the bean, the more tangy and bittersweet the flavor when brewed.

An American roast, for example, uses a shorter roasting time that allows the nuances of flavor within each bean type to be released and has a dry, light brown appearance. French or Italian roast coffees are roasted the longest and produce beans that are nearly black in color, very oily looking and have the charcoal tones and bittersweet tang that have become a taste preference for a number of coffee drinkers whether using them for espresso or regular brewing." - Coffee Express Company

city brew – (house coffee "full city roast" - stage of roasting)

Full City Roast beans are roasted beyond the light American stage but, while they have a subtle hint of the dark notes, but not to the point of the really dark roasted French or Italian. Whatever the roast level, however, the good flavor starts with quality beans specially selected to make up this blend. Our house coffee - Full City Roast is a complex mix of Latin American and African beans, all selected to respond to the Full City roast level and to produce a unique and full-bodied cup of coffee.

city coffeehouse also offers Organic and Fair Trade coffees

about Organic - Organic coffees go through an intense certification process so that consumers are assured that all possible requirements have been met before they are shipped to the roaster. Each organic coffee comes with a certification stating that it has met the National Organic Program (NOP) requirements. These coffees will have tastes similar to those of their uncertified counterparts from the same regions.

about Fair Trade - Fair Trade Certification empowers farmers and farm workers to lift themselves out of poverty by investing in their farms and communities, protecting the environment, and developing the business skills necessary to compete in the global marketplace. For more information about Fair Trade coffee and many other Fair Trade products go to www.TransFairUSA.com
